Cesarean Awareness Month

April is Cesarean Awareness Month (CAM). CAM is a campaign created by ICAN which focuses on all topics surrounding cesareans, including reducing preventable cesareans, supporting cesarean recovery, and advocating for vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC).

Why do we need awareness?

Researchers estimate that almost half of the C-sections performed in the US are done in situations when babies could be safely delivered vaginally instead.

Preventable C-sections may be responsible for up to 20,000 major surgical complications a year, including everything from sepsis to hemorrhage to organ injury.

Cesareans can be more or less “family friendly” depending on the practices or protocols at a facility. If families don’t know these options exist they can’t advocate for them.

Lowering the rate of preventable cesareans is vital to improving public health.

Simple Sweet Scones

Easy and delicious, these crumbly and light scones are a great addition to any brunch.

Ingredients:

2 cups unbleached flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. baking powder
1 stick or 8 T. unsalted butter (you can use salted and don’t add salt)
1/4 cup granulated sugar or honey
1/4 cup milk (as needed)

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 425.
Place flour, salt & baking powder in food processor. Pulse.
Cut your very cold butter into 8 pieces and add to the flour mixture.
Pulse again until the mixture resembles pea sized clumps.
Sprinkle in the sugar. Pulse.
Add 1/8 sup of milk and pulse until the small clumps become one bill ball of dough (adding more milk as necessary). The ball should come together and roll around the processor noisily.
Remove dough and knead one or two times on a floured surface. Not too much kneading as that can make them tough and melt the butter.
Cut your dough into two even pieces and roll them into circles.
Cut each circle into 8-10 triangles, like cutting a pie.
Arrange your scones closely on a clean cookie sheet.
Sprinkle with turbinado sugar (optional)
Bake for 10-12 minutes.
Top with whipped cream and jam or lemon curd.

Stress Awareness Month

April is National Stress Awareness Month to raise awareness of the negative impact of stress. There is no single definition for stress, but the most common explanation is physical, mental, or emotional strain or tension. While not all stress is bad, long-term stress can have harmful impacts on physical and mental health.

So here are some of the differences between stress and anxiety. Stress is generally a response to an external cause, such as taking a big test or arguing with a friend. It goes away once the situation is resolved and it can be positive or negative.

Anxiety, on the other hand, is generally an internal thing, meaning it is your reaction to stress; it’s coming from your brain. It usually involves a persistent feeling of apprehension or dread that doesn’t go away and that interferes with how you live your life. It is a constant thing even if there is no immediate threat around you. So those are the major differences between stress and anxiety.

Service of the Month: Scar Release Treatment

This treatment is proformed with tools called Dolphin Neurostim. Your skin is naturally negatively charged. Scar tissue is positively charged, this forms a pocket that the body struggles with. By running negative microcurrent through the scar tissue, we are able to break it up at the deepest levels, changing the outward appearance of the scar, reducing pain and increasing movement and elesticity.

We offer short and long sessions, as well as 8 session packages. Our packages are offered at a discount and are booked out all at once, setting you up for maximum success with this treatment. Scar Release Treatments start with the scar site, but progress to include the fascia layers and the emotions often stuck in the scar. Did you know that you store emotions at a cellular level?! You do and those emotions can get stuck in the scar tissue as it heals. Scar Release Treatment can actually help you release the emotions trapped in the cells.
